Cursos “Geologia e Petróleo” no GeoFCUL

Carbonate depositional systems: reservoir sedimentology and diagenesis

Resumo do curso:

Por V. Paul Wright:

Understanding of carbonate rocks - their components, depositional models and diagenetic variation - is crucial for assisting in the prediction of carbonate reservoirs, from basin-seismic (platform models) to facies (reservoir) and pore (diagenesis and porosity) scale.

The role of the carbonate geologist in the oil industry will be shown in this course, which will focus on a range of topics, namely: the primary controls on carbonate deposition temporally and spatially, contrasts with siliciclastic deposition, main types of carbonate platforms and their variability, main seismic features and distribution of likely reservoir units, sequence stratigraphic aspects, main types of likely reservoir facies, development of porosity and diagenetic environments and their implications for reservoir quality, sediment bodies as flow units and barriers, plays and stratigraphic traps, special cases (dolomites, reefs, palaeokarstic reservoirs), new concepts.
